FAQs
  • Is eloping legal?
Yes, definitely. Wherever you decide to elope, I'll make sure you know exactly what you need to do for your marriage to be legal. There are lots of ways to make sure your elopement is recognized by the government — from having an officiant come with us, or self-solemnization (marrying yourself) in certain states, there are lots of options. I'll help you with those logistics. If it all seems a little bit complicated, you can do everything except legally marry (and get the paperwork out of the way at a different time). You already know that your wedding is all about committing yourselves to each other, reading your vows, and having a day that's genuine to you. Nothing should make you do your day in any other way than how you imagine it.
  • Can we invite folks to our elopement?
Yes — elopements are intimate, but it doesn't just have to be you, your partner, and me. I'll shoot an elopement with up to 15 guests.
  • Do we need to know where we want to elope when we book you?
No - it's helpful if you have an idea of where you'd like to go, but figuring out the perfect place for you might take a bit of introspection. If you're not sure yet, close your eyes, sit quietly, and imagine what the most perfect day together might feel like to you. Imagine yourself in multiple scenarios — surrounded by aspens with a cool mountain breeze wrapping around you and your partner; a coastal ocean spray coming in from the Washington coast during the sunset; or the feeling of red rock crunching underneath your feet while you hike through Canyonlands to a perfect spot. Something you imagine might click for you. We can talk about this more during your free elopement consultation, but if you originally choose to elope in Washington but later decide to go somewhere else in the US, we can just upgrade your package.
  • How many images will we receive?
This depends on how many hours you book. Generally, you can expect 40-50 images/hour but could be more or less depending on what activities you choose to do. Rest assured that I'll make sure your elopement is fully captured.
  • How does the payment process work?
Once you've chosen your date, 30% (non-refundable) is required to book. The other 70% won't be due until a month before you get married. If you'd like to set up a payment plan, you can pay the 30% retainer + 2 more payments.
  • How will we receive our images?
Your images will be delivered to you through a password-protected online gallery that you can share with friends & family across the globe. All packages include personal printing rights.
  • When will we receive our images?
You'll receive 5-10 sneak peeks within a week of your elopement. Your full gallery will be delivered in 2-2.5 months. This may seem like a while, but I take my time with editing because your photos are so important, and this buffer period allows you to relive any potentially forgotten smaller moments when you receive your full gallery.
  • If we have to cancel, will we get our retainer back?
The retainer is non-refundable, no exceptions. However, life happens. If something comes up and you must reschedule, the retainer will count towards your rescheduled date. The rescheduled date must be within 3 months of your originally booked date.
  • What if we're awkward?
You're not. Every single couple tells me this prior to their elopement, but it's never been true and you're not about to be the first. I don't expect you to act like professional models, and it's my job to make your wedding day a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
  • What if the weather is bad?
Most of the time, we'll embrace it like the adventure it is - after all, there's no bad weather, just bad gear. If there's a safety issue, e.g. wildfires, we'll reschedule so you can elope safely.
  • Can you officiate our wedding too? How does that work?
I'd love to. If you're looking to have an incredibly intimate ceremony (you, myself, and maybe 1-2 other guests) then I am more than happy to officiate. Generally, you'll lead most of your ceremony, read your vows, exchange your rings, and include any other meaningful rituals, and then I'll join in at the end to state the Declaration of Intent - that little bit where the officiant says "Do you take them to be your lawfully wedded partner?" It's important to me as a photographer to be free to capture as many moments as possible, so that's why I recommend this only for couples comfortable leading the way.
